Thinking More Is Better
Time, or the lack of it, is one of the biggest reasons why exercise isn’t a big priority for most people. We tend to think working out requires more time than we think it should, which is never the case.
Time should never be an excuse because everyone shares the same 24 hours in the day to become productive. It’s always our responsibility to do more with the time that we already have.
Exercise should aimed at getting the most out of your training in the shortest amount of time possible. Science suggests shorter duration exercises are a lot more efficient for us as we can achieve better results with building muscle and fat loss much faster this way. Keep reading to find out how.
Why Workouts Under 60 Minutes Are Better For You
To get the benefits of a short duration workout, you have to exert your muscles to a degree of intensity. Intensity involves manipulating variables to get more work capacity out of that muscle group (see How to Increase Intensity in Your Workouts).
Without an intense workout, you have to rely on the duration, or how long the workout is itself. And when comparing intense workouts vs. long duration workouts, intensity always wins.
Studies show that high-intensity workouts use anaerobic pathways that allow more energy to be released from fat cells. In comparison, endurance workouts use aerobic pathways that break down muscle when you exercise for long periods of time.
Metabolic reactions increase greatly after a high-intensity cardio session, even after you stopped exercising. This is why you’ll have an afterburn effect following your workout, known as EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption).
In order to do a high-intensity exercise properly, you should track your sets and repetitions very carefully. By doing this, you’ll be more likely to continue working out on your own as you’ll have goals and standards to beat every time you’re exercising.

The Wrap Up
Find new ways to workout as fast and efficiently as possible. To make improvements in any area, you need to find alternative methods to add intensity and make your training more effective. Long duration exercises should be used as a last resort if all other fat loss methods fail.
