Hello, I’m David Dummett, strength & conditioning coach licensed with NASM. Welcome to my blog!

Only a  few years back, I was always the scrawniest guy in the room.

I never weighed more than 155 pounds and I actually struggled to stay at that weight.

I always wondered why it was so hard for me to put on size like other guys my age, and soon became devoted to studying bodybuilding and strength training.

These studies have taken time.

I researched and bought my first workout program online from a certified trainer in 2004, when I was 17.

I didn’t get the results I was looking for. Despite following the suggested diet and doing all the required workouts, it seemed I was just adding fat, and NOT building muscle.

I was discouraged and briefly gave up working out.

Shortly after I joined the Navy, and was eventually deployed overseasFor months I was working ridiculous hours, seven days a week, and I needed an outlet for my stress.

That outlet became lifting weights.

I didn’t take to it easilyIn fact, I hated it at first.

But I loaded up my favorite music and stuck with it for a couple of weeks.

I was lifting free weights and barbells, and doing some simple core work to develop my abs.

And guess what?

I started to notice some results.

I kept at it for five years, without any real guidance.

From 2007-2012 I  made progress, despite a flexible diet and unfocused workout routine.

By 2013, as you can see, I was looking alright.

But I wanted more.

I wanted to take my personal fitness to another level.

Starting in 2012 I began recording all of my meals and training sessions to identify areas where I needed to improve. By the following year, I made some minor progress and added about 5lbs of lean muscle.

As I gained more experience weightlifting, I realized the advice from reading fitness magazines and friends that trained with me wasn’t enough to reach my goals.

I’ve always admired the great bodybuilders from the Golden Era (Steve Reeves, Sergio Olivia, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Serge Nubret, Frank Zane) for their aesthetic physiques and impressive feats of strength.

From studying classic bodybuilding material and experimenting with weightlifting methods that have worked for myself and dozens of clients, I’ve created this site to help those with a desire to lose fat, build muscle, and feel better about themselves.

What I found out was that the workouts were legitimately good workouts, but they wouldn’t necessarily work for anyone that started them no matter what they did.

I looked at tons of YouTube videos first on the basics on how to lift weights properly, then took that knowledge and did some research on my own at the university to understand movements and biomechanics a little better.

It was good to have a practical look at weightlifting by studying certified experts and professionals first before researching publications because I was able to spot which information was bullshit and which wasn’t.

By actually learning the science of bodybuilding, I was able to teach myself and several others very easily how to start lifting weights.

Since starting my fitness career and becoming certified, I’ve consulted with dozens of friends and family on helping them get in better shape and feel better about themselves.
